Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLOTTE MAY MEARON (nee Ellis) August 9, 1918 June 21, 2011 Charlotte May Mearon passed away at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, at the age of 92 years. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Lloyd George (Bud) Mearon, her parents Harry and Emily (Whatling) Ellis, originally of England, and her sisters Phyllis, Gwendoline and Winnifred. Left to mourn her passing are her sons Paul (Evelyn), Maurice (Marion), Dennis (Susan) and Brian (Jean), grandchildren John, Karen, Kathie, Sarah, Heather, Michelle and Melissa, great-grandchildren Madison, Jackson, Wyatt and Nikolai. Charlotte's life was one of strength and determination. She was born at the family home in Napinka, Manitoba. Her father died when she was only seven years old. When the Great Depression hit, her sisters left to live with relatives while she and her mother moved to Winnipeg. Despite this separation, or maybe because of it, she always felt a special bond with them. During her first job at The Hudson's Bay Company in downtown Winnipeg, Charlotte (or May as she was also known) met Bud who was an elevator operator. He must have made an impression when he chastised her for riding an elevator meant for customers. Romance blossomed, Bud joined the running trades with CP Rail and the couple was married. When the Second World War broke out, after Paul was born and Maurice was on the way, Bud was conscripted into the army. He was stationed on Vancouver Island while she raised her two eldest sons in a motel on the mainland. After the war, the family returned to Winnipeg. When Bud was working on the road with CP Rail, Charlotte reared four rambunctious lads in the West End and eventually began to work for Sears. Charlotte cooked up a storm, loved to bowl, and relished her cottage life at Winnipeg Beach. Over the last two decades, she battled through many serious illnesses, grittily determined to live life to the fullest. In her final years at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence, surrounded by stuffed toys and second-hand treasures, she enjoyed her special outings, the staff and many friends she made there, the Knit Wit Club and, of course, time spent with family. A service honouring the life of Charlotte May Mearon will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
