BELLA JANE (JEAN) YATES It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Yates, loving aunt of George (Heather) McGhee, Jim McGhee, Margie (Brian) Taylor and great aunt of Cameron and Riley McGhee and Mandy Taylor at the Hamiota District Health Centre on May 22, 2011, at the age of 96 years. She was predeceased by her first husband Ken Kelsey (killed in action), her second husband John (Scotty) Yates, her parents James and Isabella McGhee, her brother and sister-in-law John and Kay McGhee, and her brother George (killed in action). Jean was born in the R.M. of Hamiota on December 8, 1914. She grew up on the family farm north of Hamiota. Jean received her education in Hamiota, then attended the University of Manitoba where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. She then took a secretarial course at Angus Business College. She worked for William Gray, a chartered accountant, in Winnipeg before moving to Vancouver where she worked for Dominion Construction, a subsidiary of the Bentall Group, until her retirement at 65. Jean enjoyed travelling and made many trips back to Manitoba and to Scotland to visit relatives. She enjoyed travelling to other parts of the world as well. A family graveside service was held on June 4, 2011 at Hamiota Cemetery with Elsie Dickenson officiating. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Box 2248 Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or to Hamiota District Health Centre Foundation, Box 671, Hamiota, MB R0M 0T0. Arrangements were with Campbell Funeral Home in Hamiota.
