OLIVE MARIE SIMPSON The family of Olive Marie Simpson regrets to announce her passing after a lengthy illness at Concordia Hospital on June 21, 2011. Mom was born in Kelloe, Manitoba, on October 9, 1932, the youngest daughter of Samuel Locke and Agnes McAuley. Mom's early years were spent on the farm in Kelloe where life was often difficult at best. At an early age, the family moved to Winnipeg and settled in St. James where Mom grew up and went to school. Mom met our father, Douglas Simpson, some years later and knew they would be life mates. They were married on September 5, 1952 and subsequently moved to Transcona, raised four children and were blessed with 58 years of marriage. Family was everything to Mom and she loved family dinners and birthdays. In her younger years, Mom was quite the cook and prepared most of our meals from scratch. She made great effort to hide her cookies and cakes from us kids as we would consume everything in one day if we had the opportunity. Mom loved all of her kids and often babysat the neighbour's kids. Our two bedroom house was usually loud and full. Mom took special pride in raising her four children and in her later years, her six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She enjoyed the news and reading her Free Press and listening to CJOB radio. She was a news-a-holic. Mom is survived by her children: Gary (Adrienne), children, Rebecca, Gary, and Sean; daughter Cathy (Russ), children Melissa and Nicholas; son Blair, her granddaughter Kristin (Darcy) and her great-granddaughter McKenna. Mom is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Mom was proud of her immediate and extended families. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Agnes and Samuel, her stepfather Jack Stewart, her siblings Jessie (Robert), Anne (Lorne), Audrey (Reg), Ross (Madeline). She was also predeceased by her daughter Debbie (Garry), infant son David, and an infant grandson Eric. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Mom's name, would be appreciated for the Canadian Cancer Society. Honouring mom's wishes cremation has taken place at Chapel Lawn. A private family service will take place at a later time. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff, nurses and doctors for their care and concern for our Mom while she spent her remaining days at Concordia Hospital. Rest in Peace Mom. We all love you and you will live forever in our hearts and our children. Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave., 885-9715 In care of arrangements.
