JESSIE ALMA SHANKS (nee RAIKE) With the comfort and love of her family, Jessie Shanks passed away peacefully on June 22, 2011 at the Grace Hospital. Jessie was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Shanks in 1984 and her sister, Thelma. Jessie will be sadly missed by her son, Brian and daughter-in-law Karen; grandchildren Leah and Scott; as well as nieces and nephews. Jessie was born on May 5, 1923 to Florence and Gilbert Raike in Winnipeg. She attended Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and was valedictorian for her graduating class. Jessie enjoyed her career as a legal secretary for several law firms over many years. In 1946, she married Alfred and they resided most of their lives in St. Vital. Jessie was a very gracious and elegant woman who enjoyed her neighbours and friends. Her friendships included her church circle from Regents Park United Church and Toastmistresses. Jessie cherished time spent with her family and spoiled us all with her wonderful cooking. In later years, Jessie was a close companion of Dean Finlay, with whom she spent many happy years travelling. The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home for their kind and compassionate care. Jessie had a special relationship with Doug and Jean Shanks and she enjoyed their weekly visits to Heritage Lodge for afternoon tea with her and the residents. As Jessie enriched her life with friendships, in lieu of flowers, invite a friend out for lunch. A private family service will be held in July at the Heritage Lodge Personal Care Home.
