HELMUT ARTHUR MARTEL January 4, 1929 - June 23, 2011 Helmut died with his family by his side on Thursday, June 23. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eileen; son Stan; daughter Grace and husband Walter; and his beloved granddaughter Erin. In addition, Helmut's extended family included sister Lorraine (Wally); brothers, Harry (Gail) and Herb. He was predeceased by his parents, Julius and Pauline Martel; and sister Ruth. Helmut's lifelong love of fixing and repairing led him to spend most of his life working at Martel's Garage, first with his father, then his son. This was a job he never fully retired from. Until last week, Helmut was still walking to the garage in the mornings before coffee at the hall in Rosenfeld, where he lived all his life. No flowers please. Instead, donations can be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Manitoba Lung Association. Services for Helmut will be held Tuesday, June 28 at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Rosenfeld at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Rosenfeld Cemetery with lunch at the community hall.
