WALTER STEPHEN HILASH March 28, 1931 - June 25, 2011 After a brave fight with cancer, and with his family by his side, Wally passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Riverview Health Centre. Wally was born in Fork River, Manitoba, to Mike and Nellie Hilash, the third of their six children. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers John and Ernie, his sister Mary Kirk, sister-in-law Pat Cross, and brothers-in-law Dennis Honish, John Peters and Alex Cross. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann, and their three sons, Bill (wife Monique, son Shane and fiancé Ashley), Jim (wife Sandra, sons Ian and David), Ken (wife Linda and daughter Julie). He is also survived by sisters Pearl Honish and Teena Honish, sisters-in-law Olga Hilash, Margaret Hilash, Elizabeth Cross, Heather Peters, brothers-in-law Norm Honish and Tex Kirk, and many nieces and nephews. Wally worked for 37 years for the City of Winnipeg as a welder, retiring in 1992. All of his life, he enjoyed working with his hands, with both metal and wood, and he used his skills to build or repair so many things for family and friends. His favourite times were spent with his children and grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed the family cottage he built at Silver Harbour, and all of the happy gatherings that were held there. Although he always said that he was just an ordinary fellow , not fussy or fancy , we all knew that he was extraordinary. A memorial service for Wally will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., Winnipeg, at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011. Private family interment.
