(MICKEY) MICHAEL J. STOKOTELNY Mickey passed away on Monday, June 27, 2011, at Victoria General Hospital, at the age of 78. Mickey was born on November 19, 1932 in the R.M. of Gilbert Plains to parents Mathew and Justina (Podworny) Stokotelny. He received his education in Lemberg, Halley School, D.C.T.I. in Dauphin and University of Manitoba. He became an elementary school teacher with a Degree in Physical Education, a Bachelor of Education and also coached gymnastics and swimming. After retiring, he became a World Triathlon athlete, competing in his age group across Canada and many countries of the world. He qualified to compete in The World Triathlon Championships in Beijing, China this September. As recent as June 15, he brought home 11 medals at the Manitoba 55 plus Games. Mickey loved the outdoors participating in swimming, cycling, running, gardening and vacationing. He loved children especially his nieces and nephews and their children. They loved having him around playing games. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. Mickey was also an active volunteer at many sporting events including swim meets, marathons and triathlons. Mickey leaves to cherish many fond memories his two sisters: Barbara Smaluck of Hamilton, Ontario, Stella Lis of Burlington, Ontario; sisters-in-law Verna Cody of Los Angeles, California, Anne Stoketelny of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Josephine Stokotelny of Dauphin, Manitoba; his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, extended families and many friends. Mickey was predeceased by his seven brothers: Nick, Fred, Tony, Bill, Leo, John and Mel. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at St. Timothy Parish, 135 John Forsyth Road with a reception to follow.
