Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDAVID NELSON SHEPHERD April 23, 1932 - June 26, 2011 It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our father, David Shepherd, on June 26 in Halifax, NS. Sharing in our loss and sorrow is Dad's partner of three decades, Lorelei Robins, of Annapolis Royal, NS. Dad was born in Thunder Bay, ON, and adopted in infancy by David and Margaret Shepherd. He spent his childhood and youth on the family farm in Spearhill, MB, and farmed there himself with his young family in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Later moves took him to Winnipeg and the Petersfield area, and in the mid-1980s, he and Lorelei moved to Nova Scotia's Annapolis Valley. In addition to farming, Dad's other jobs saw him working with the federal department of forestry and fisheries (work that took him from Manitoba's back roads to the Canadian arctic), as a rural mail contractor, and in a greenhouse. These choices reflect one of our father's most enduring traits; he was at his happiest outdoors, surrounded by nature, and ideally, with his hands in the soil. Missing Dad are his three daughters and their husbands, Dawn and Ian MacLean, Sharon Shepherd and Peter Kusy, and Heather and Tim Demetrioff, and his grandson and grand-daughter-in-law, Cameron MacLean and Anna Pauls. Also feeling this loss is our mother, Peg (Una) Shepherd. Dad is also grieved by his other family, Lorelei's children and grand-children, Stephanie and Normand, and Greg, Nicole, Tyler and Marlee. Cremation has taken place, and celebrations of Dad's life will take place at a later date in Nova Scotia and Manitoba. To honour Dad's memory, please think of him as you do one of the things he loved, planting a tree, reading a good book, or looking up an old friend, or make a donation to a cause that inspires you.
