Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDMUND JAMES BRADY Passed away peacefully June 14, 2011 after a lengthy illness at the age of 85 years. Ed was born in Winnipeg, December 28, 1925. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Mary Josephine Brady; sister Mary; brothers and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his loving and caring wife Edie, four children, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. John (Krys) of Pinawa, MB - Jessica (Rob) Smithson - Liam, Aidan and Meara, Jean-Luc Brady of Vernon, BC, Jo-Anne (Rick) Wiggins of Calgary, AB - Chelsea Wiggins (Mark), Erin (Dan) Miller - Gracie and Reegan, Debbie (John) Ross, Britannia Beach, BC - Garett (Julie) Barker, Jenifer Barker, Jeremy (Karla) Barker, Karen (Leon) Doidge of Dafoe, SK - Melanie (Kevyn) Kristmanson - Keegan, Holly Doidge (Dave). Sister Geraldine Pydee, brother Lorne Brady of Winnipeg. Sisters-in-law, Bert Jeffery, Hazel Baldock, Marie Baldock', as well as many nieces and nephews, special friends, Ron and Elizabeth Coulter. Ed married Edith Eileen Baldock on April 18, 1947 in Winnipeg. Ed worked for the CPR as a machinist and was transferred to Wynyard as Locomotive foreman in August 1953. Although he loved the trains, his real passion was the Fire Department and the Emergency Measure's Organization which he set up in the district. He was fire chief for 22 years and an ambulance driver, he received the Governor General of Canada award for his meritorious service in 1986. He served in the navy during the Second World War and was very active in many capacities and was awarded the life membership in the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a proud member of the France Canada Association making many trips and became friends of Les Martre De Veyre, France. He was an active and dedicated member of the Masonic Order gathering lasting friendships. He enjoyed his years on the prairies hunting and fishing and the Cabin at the lake. Edie and Ed retired to the West Coast where he enjoyed sailing and walks on the Somenos Marsh, and Mill Bay Road. He loved dogs and was known as the Cookie man on all his rounds. He was known as Dumpy to his grand-children and was loved and cherished for his sense of humour, quirky sayings and songs. Special thanks for the loving care from his care workers at Alder House in Sunridge Place, Duncan, BC. A Celebration of Life was held at First Memorial. 375 Brae Rd. in Duncan on Saturday, June 18, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society, Firefighters Association or the charity of your choice.
