RICHARD LAVERN HOCKRIDGE May 29, 1927 - June 24, 2011 Vern, much loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 84 years. Survived by wife Velma Hockridge (Sjerdal); son Terry (Kris) Hockridge of Sanford, MB; daughters, Nancy (Doug) Fearn of Three Hills, AB, Heather Hockridge ( Frank) of Winnipeg, MB, Verna Edgar (Rick) of Winnipeg, MB; and stepchildren - Marvin (Liz) Sjerdal of Vancouver, BC, Philip Sjerdal (April) of Vancouver, BC, Ann Sjerdal of Three Hills, AB. Also survived by grand-children, Jennifer, Hilary, Sarah, Christopher, Cameron, Kate, Laura, Ashley, Mardi and stepgrandchild Molly, plus 13 great-grandchildren. Vern was pre-deceased by his first wife Eleanor and great-grandson Joshua. He will be missed by surviving brothers and sisters. Vern had the unique ability to turn strangers into friends. That gift was evident over his years of working and living; he was always ready to interact with those he met along the way. It didn't take long for everyone to be exposed to his sense of humour and easy laughter, he was always ready for a good time. We are thankful for all the fond and special memories of times we had with him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011, 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. West, Winnipeg.
