KENNETH GEORGE MORRISON October 31, 1948 - June 26, 2011 Ken was born in Englishtown, Cape Breton Island, to John and Doris Morrison. He attended school in Baddeck, NS. After graduation, he was accepted into the Royal Canadian Mounted Police academy in 1967. During his career, Ken was posted in a number of detachments around Manitoba, including Amaranth and Ethelbert. While working in Ethelbert, he met Audrey Gnazdowsky, his future wife. They married on August 5, 1972. They began their life together in The Pas, and then were transferred to McCreary. While living in McCreary they started their family. They had a daughter Wendy in 1975, who died shortly after birth. Keri was born in 1976, and Todd was born in 1979. After Todd was born, the family was transferred to Winnipeg. Ken also worked in Powerview and Winnipegosis. He retired from the force in 1996. He and Audrey moved to Dauphin later that year. He continued his career working at the Canadian Firearms Centre. He also kept busy working at several gas bars around Dauphin. He was dedicated to his work and took pride in providing for his family. Ken was well-known for his sarcastic sense of humour and you knew he liked you if he called you Bag . He had a tough exterior but his bark was always worse than his bite. His priorities in life included a spotless driveway - he had a full arsenal at his disposal, including the leaf blower that came out daily in the fall, and the shovel and snow blower in the winter. He was also meticulous about washing his vehicles, and washing the dishes - all running family jokes. He enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays and was excited to attend their training camp games this past February when visiting his sister in Florida. He also kept the TV tuned either to the Golf Channel or the Food Network. He took quite an interest in cooking in recent years and had been known to bake muffins and cheese biscuits from scratch. Being from the East Coast, he loved seafood - he perfected his lobster and crab boils, and cooked fish and scallops perfectly. He enjoyed listening to country music and could be heard singing along off-key. In September 2009, Audrey was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. Ken was an incredibly loving, dedicated and patient caregiver to his wife during her illness. He rarely left her side and was devastated that she was ill. Audrey died on October 22, 2010. We believe that Ken was heartbroken after Audrey passed away. We find comfort in knowing that they are together again. Ken was predeceased by his wife Audrey, daughter Wendy, parents Doris and John, and sister Cynthia. Ken is survived by his daughter Keri, her husband Duane, and granddaughter Emma; his son Todd, his wife Krista, and grandchildren Callum, Kelty and Cale; his sister Judy Campbell, his brother John, and numerous extended family. A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 4, 2011 at 11:00 am, from the Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Chapel in Dauphin, MB (Main Street location). A private family interment for both Ken and Audrey will follow the lunch, at the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox cemetery in Ethelbert, MB. Donations may be made in Ken's name to the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services 1-877-243-4459 www.sneathstrilchuk.com
