Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES HOGG The family of James "Jim" "Jimmy" Hogg is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their dear father and grandfather on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Riverview Health Centre. James was born in Winnipeg on January 27, 1944, and spent his childhood in Fort Rouge, attending Lord Roberts Elementary and Churchill High School. He formed many of his fondest childhood memories during summers spent with his grandparents at their farm outside of Baldur, MB. In 1966 James married his high school sweetheart, Cecilia Gallagher, with whom he had two children. Although the marriage was not to last, the friendship endured, and Cecilia remained Jim's closest and dearest friend until the end of his life. Jim lived through the heyday of the great Winnipeg music scene of the late 60's and early 70's as a record promoter with RCA records. For the rest of his life Jim would entertain family and friends with the amusing stories of his experiences during those days. Jim's greatest love and passion was for music, especially the blues and early rock and country. An avid guitar and music collector, when at home, was rarely without a guitar in his hands. Plucking, strumming, picking, Jim's passion for music was infectious as he regaled his family and friends with back stories and meanings of the songs and artists he loved most including: Bob Dylan, Howlin' Wolf, Elvis and Robert Johnson. In his later years James found his ultimate fulfilment in the form of grand-fatherhood and enjoyed a special bond with his namesake Evan James. Although they lived many thousands of miles apart the two saw each other virtually at least once a week. Through his gifts of kazoos, guitars, harmonicas and maracas, Gramps has laid the foundation, and provided inspiration for a lifelong love of music in his grandchildren. James is survived by his two children; Colleen Patricia Baker of Boston, husband Trevor and children Evan and Riley; and son Dylan Thomas Hogg of Ottawa, and wife Kate Partridge. He is also survived by his sister Janice Sova of Whitehorse, with whom he shared a deep and special bond, along with husband Bruce and niece Kim. He is predeceased by his father, James Hogg in 1967 and his mother Theresa ( Tess ) Hogg in 1999. The family would like to thank the following for their kindness, compassion and generosity to Jim over the years of his illness: the staff of Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care Unit, and special friend Victor Chouinard whose support helped us to get through the final months. James will be remembered at a graveside service on Monday, July 4th, at Thomson In the Park Cemetery. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO.
