WELLAND GRANT WILLIAMS 1930 - 2011 Following a short illness, on July 3 at Grace Hospital at the age of 81. Born June 15, 1930 in Pembroke, Ontario, Welland is survived by his loving wife, Joan; sister Helena (Clair); sister-in-law Agnes in Dublin, Eire; sons, Murray and David (Allison); and grandchildren, Nicola, Julian and Morgan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Welland graduated from Queen's University with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1955 and subsequently spent 32 years in the Canadian Armed Forces serving across Canada, Europe and in the Middle East. An avid golfer and curler, Welland received an honourary life membership with the Manitoba Curling Association and Order of Sports Excellence, Volunteer Service Award from Golf Manitoba and was a three time winner of the Greyer Owl Golf Tournament at Clear Lake. He was truly a family man and thoroughly enjoyed his special group of friends. A longtime season ticket holder with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the Winnipeg Jets and the Manitoba Moose, he was looking forward to the return of the Jets this hockey season. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Doctor George and the staff at the Grace Hospital (3 South) for their excellent care and compassionate efforts making Welland's final days comfortable. Services will be held at Westwood Presbyterian Church on Friday, July 8 at 1:00 p.m. with a private family interment on Saturday at Chapel Lawn. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Kennedy's Disease Association or a charity of your choice.
