WINIFRED MAY MAYO July 9, 1920 - July 5, 2011 Suddenly and with much sadness, Winifred May Mayo (Buckley) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Calvary Place Nursing Home, Winnipeg, Manitoba; four days before her 91st birthday. Mom will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Robert (Bob), whom she was married to for almost 69 years; her two daughters: Candice (Melvin) and Hope (Ernie); her many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, especially her best friend of over 70 years, Bette Mowatt. Mom was predeceased by her parents Eleanor and William Buckley. Mom was born July 9, 1920 in Harding, Manitoba. After graduating from Brandon College, Mom then took her Psychiatric Nursing at Selkirk General Hospital and graduated with honours in 1943. Mom worked at Selkirk General Hospital, two nursing homes, Deer Lodge Hospital and retired from being in charge of the Geriatric/Psychiatric Program at the Health Sciences Centre in 1980. Mom loved to soak up the sun and go swimming. She enjoyed traveling, reading, bowling and doing her crossword puzzles. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all the staff at Calvary Place Nursing Home for the care and respect they gave Mom over the past three years. Cremation has taken place. As per Mom's wishes there will be no funeral. A Memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, a donation in Winifred's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 4G2.
