VIOLET FREDERICA (FREDDIE) HAM (nee CARREL) January 13, 1918 July 06, 2011 We are saddened to announce the passing of Frederica Ham, on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Oakview Place, at the age of 93. Freddie was born in Upper Norwood, Surrey, England to Henry Charles and Daisy Grace Carrel. She came to Canada in 1933, at 15 years of age, to live with an aunt and uncle in Regina. She moved to Toronto in 1936 and took a secretarial course. Freddie moved to Winnipeg in 1940 and worked for Canada Packers and Manitoba Bridge before joining the CWAC in February 1943. She worked for the artillery unit until April 1946. From there she was employed by Manitoba Rolling Mills until she wed Thomas Ham, in November 1946. She is survived by daughters Barb Rondeau (Bob) and Donna Ranville (Randy), six grandchildren David (Heather), Kevin, Rhonda, Michelle (Garnet Stevenson), Melanie (Jesse Knox), great-grandchildren Matthew, Caitlin, Ashley, André, Anora, Casey and Lexi, and relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas, her parents, her sisters Sylvia, Ida and Celia and granddaughter Jenny. She was a member of Branch #30, West Kildonan Legion, and held several positions in Gen. Sir Sam Steele and West Kildonan Legions, on executive committees in both branches. She was a life member and L.M.S.M. recipient and member for 55 years. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street with interment and reception to follow. The family would like to thank Oakview Place and Deer Lodge Center for their care and support. Donations in Freddie's name may be made to Heart and Stroke or Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
