Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN VERNA DEWAR (nee DEMKEY) We are sad to announce the passing of Helen Dewar of Osoyoos, BC on June 27, 2011 at the age of 81. She was predeceased by her loving husband Don in 1995. She was also predeceased by her brother Gordon Demkey and sister Ruth Senger. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters Debra (Art) Riel of Winnipeg and Sandra Dewar (Fred Hawryluk) of Red Lake, ON; grandsons Jeffrey and Julien Riel; her sister-in-law Darlene Demkey; sisters Mildred (Stan) Kostka, Lydia (Al) Moritz, Dianne Tarko, and her brother Richard (Dorothy) Demkey. Helen will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Mom was born in Winkler, MB and spent her youth on farms in the Winkler and Gladstone area. She met Dad in Calgary and they were married in 1954. With Dad being in the Air Force, they were stationed in many places including Clinton, ON, Metz and Marville, France and Gimli, MB. We have great memories of road trips and camping throughout France, Germany, Spain, Austria and Holland. We also lived in Morden and Selkirk, MB. Mom and Dad retired to Osoyoos, BC in 1986 where Mom lived until her stroke in 2008. During her life Mom enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing, camping, gardening, bowling, playing cards with her friends and family, and visiting with her grandsons when they came to visit. The family would like to thank the staff at McKinney Place in Oliver for the dedicated care they gave Mom since her stroke. Also a special thank you to Helen's good friend Lois Mandziuk. According to Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place. If one so desires, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation in her name.
