SIDNEY THOMAS FARMER SR. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sidney Thomas Farmer Sr. on July 7, 2011 at Deer Lodge Centre peacefully at the age of 90. Sid was born May 18, 1921 in Winnipeg. He is survived by his son Sid (Wendy) Farmer and daughter Barb (Josh) Halprin; grandchildren Sarah (Greg), Mike (Ali), Shannon (Charles) and Kymberly (Joel); nieces Lani and Alene Robb; sister-in-law Cilla MacLennan. Sid was predeceased by his wife Margaret and sister Hilda Robb. Sid met his wife Margaret MacLennan while roller skating. It was love at first sight and they married shortly after they met on October 2, 1946. They spent 56 wonderful years together and raised two children. Later they were blessed with four grandchildren who Sid loved to pieces and was extremely proud of. On November 4, 1940, Sid courageously joined the navy, where he served on the H.M.C.S. Prince Rubert for five years. He received several medals for his brave responsibilities during the Second World War. After returning home, Sid started working at the Post Office as a postal clerk where he worked for 38 years, retiring in 1984. Sid had a passion for animals, curling and travelling. Sid and Margaret travelled the world visiting places such as England, San Francisco and the Caribbean. Sid was a kind, gentle and compassionate person. He loved spending time with family and friends and was always ready with a witty joke or a kind word. Sid also had an incredible memory for dates and facts and enjoyed sharing these with others. Sam and he enjoyed trivia games every Thursday. He was a loving husband, an honorable father and the best grandfather. He will be greatly missed by many. Poppa we love you to pieces and will miss you deeply . A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.
