TED LAWRYNIUK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ted Lawryniuk at Victoria General Hospital on July 2, 2011 at the age of 80 years. Ted was born in Overstoneville, Manitoba in 1931. In 1934 the Lawrynuik family moved to a farm just east of Dominion City. Life on the farm in the 1930s was not easy. It taught Ted to be resourceful. This, his enquiring mind and determined nature led him to master many and varied skills throughout his life. He moved to Winnipeg in the 1950s. Ted married the love of his life, Susan, in 1953. They shared life and a deep abiding faith. In the early 1960s they settled in St. Vital to raise their children. The family was extended to include children that they fostered. The Lawrynuik home was open and welcoming to family, friends and everyone who visited. In later years, when presented with grandchildren, their joy was complete. Ted retired from the Canadian National Railway in 1993 after a lengthy career. While at C.N. he served as a union shop steward. To this position, Ted applied a dogged determination to do the right thing. He was also self-employed, owning and operating several different ventures which included a landscape gardening business, snow removal business, an apartment building and acting as his own general contractor for several house construction projects. He took immense pride in a job well done. Dad loved the outdoors. Nothing was better than getting out of the city for some fishing, hunting or camping. Tales of his adventures were retold many times with the conclusion always punctuated by a hearty laugh. Put him on a tractor and he would go all day. He also enjoyed golfing, curling and finding new cultivars to put in his garden. Ted was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Susan (nee Machnik), his brother Fred, sister Anne and brother John. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory his children Judy (Ken) Browne, Debbie (Wayne) Hassar, Rick Lawrynuik, his four grandchildren Connor, Ryan, Rylie and Rowyn; brothers and sisters Walter, Lillian (Fraser-Reid), Bill, Ruth (Stepaniuk) and Helena (Mushumanski), and a large extended family. A family interment will be held on Monday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens (Garden of the Good Samaritan), 4000 Portage Avenue. All are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Ted's life at 1:00 p.m. on July 25 at Sterling Mennonite Fellowship Church, 1008 Dakota Street, Winnipeg, Pastor Terry Goertzen officiating. A reception at the church will follow immediately afterwards. On behalf of Ted and the family thanks go out to Dr. J. Mayba and staff, Dr. K. Bernstein and the staff of the Renal Clinic, all the staff on 4S at Victoria General Hospital, and especially Dr. W. Czarnecki, Gail and the staff of the Cardiac Clinic at Victoria General Hospital for their care and support. Thanks also to the staff and his friends at the Seine River Retirement Residence. He considered you a second family. In memory of Ted, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Kidney Foundation, Sterling Mennonite Fellowship Church, or to a church or charity of your choice.
