AGNES BLANCHE HELMAN (nee LANE) It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Agnes Blanche Helman on July 7, 2011. Surrounded by her family, she peacefully passed away at the age of 99 years at the Foyer Valade Nursing Home. Predeceased by husband Joseph; sons, Garry and Camille; and daughter Diane, as well as her nine brothers and sisters. Mom is survived by her children, Richard Helman, Beverly Marion (Don), Wanda Helman, Wendy McCloy and Sharon Helman, and will be sadly missed. Mom will also be fondly remembered by her 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, and her numerous nieces and nephews. Daughter of Napoleon Lane and Georgina McMillan, Mom grew up in Deerhorn, Manitoba and was the last surviving sibling. Her life started on the farm, living on the land and moving to Winnipeg where she met her future husband, Joseph (Joe) Helman. Married on New Years Eve 1937, they settled in on a farm in Carman, Manitoba. It was here that they worked on the farm as well as raised their family. In the 1960s, they moved to Winnipeg with the kids in tow. Mom ran the household while Dad went to work at Kelly Construction, a job that he loved. Mom was a proud and devoted grandmother who is leaving the grandchildren with many happy memories. They learned how to appreciate a good cup of hot tea, how to swirl a cup of hot chocolate without spilling, enjoying a glass of tomato juice and a great bowl of cream of wheat. These are memories that they will share with their children. Before she got married, Mom worked at Tache Hospital which she very much enjoyed. Later in life, when all the children were grown, she worked at St. Amant Centre for many years, alongside her sister, Sister Eva Lane. She was an active and proud member of the Catholic Womens League with a great respect for her religious beliefs. Agnes was also a devoted mother who was a hard worker and honest woman with a great sense of humour and a kind and loving heart. Prayers will be officiated by Monsignor Stan Jaworski on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. The funeral mass will take place on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vital Church, 1629 Pembina Hwy., celebrated by Father Barry Schoonbaert and concelebrated by Monsignor Stan Jaworski. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or to a charity of your choice.
