GORDON JOSEPH ATKINSON 1920 - 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Dad, and Bumpa, Gordon Joseph Atkinson. Gord is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis and his two daughters Patricia (Doug) and Joni (Clyde). He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren: Jeff (Jenn), Michael and Scotty; and great-grandchildren Braden, Kieran and Connor. Dad was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 12, 1920. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1939 to 1945 in the North Atlantic. He enjoyed a long career with Labatt's Brewery followed by a contract position with the Manitoba Government. He was a member of the Khartum Shriners and participated with the Drum Bugle Corps. Upon his retirement Mom and Dad moved permanently down to their home in Gimli where they enjoyed many happy years together. During his retirement years, Dad kept busy at Northernaire Golf Course as their accountant. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Tom Raemer, Richard Hurak and care workers, Brenda, Ashley and Karen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Children's Wish Foundation, 350 St. Mary Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 3J2 or a charity of your choice.
