FLORENCE ELIZABETH YOUNG 1932 - 2011 Florence Elizabeth Young (Flo), 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, after a hard fought battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Matt; children Jim (Dawn) of Pictou, NS; Bryan; Debbie (Paul) of Pictou, NS; Brett (Jill) of Teulon; Barry (Gay) of Regina, SK; Belinda (Junior) of Edmonton, AB; Faye of Regina, SK, her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters Mary and Shirley (Bernie); her brother Phillip (Brenda); relatives and friends. She was born on October 9, 1932 in St. Philips, SK, to Walter and Nellie Schopf. She was predeceased by her older sisters Elsie (in infancy) and Agnes; her parents and her stepfather Frank Garr. She moved to Winnipeg in 1948 where she obtained employment. There she met Matthias (Matt) Young and they were married on August 15, 1953 in Kamsack, SK. Over the years Flo and Matt moved around with the military from Germany, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island and Saskatchewan finally settling permanently in Winnipeg in 1991. She always put the needs of others before herself, from asking how you and your family were doing, to being the perfect hostess serving coffee and refreshments. She enjoyed family, friends, reading books, playing cards, meat draws, Thursday evening bingo game with the girls, journaling (which she did every day) and travelling when she could. She was a woman of deep faith, accepting the Lord as her saviour and it brought her great comfort during her illness. Cremation has taken place and a private service was held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 with interment at Brookside Cemetery. Padre Gordon Shields of the Korean Veterans Association Unit 17 officiated. Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, And cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, For as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
