FREDA CHAMPAGNE (nee ALLARD) September 28, 1930 - July 8, 2011 C'est avec un profond sentiment de tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de notre chère Maman. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear Mom on Friday, July 8, 2011. At the age of 80 years, Mom passed away in her home with her loyal canine companion, Peppy, at her side. Freda will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, relatives, and many friends. She was Maman, Mom, Memère, Mermz, and Grandma Freda to us and to countless others. Freda was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Champagne in 1969, brothers Adrien, Doric, and sister, Delphine (Sister Julienne). She is survived by her brothers Aimé (Séraphine), Martial (Michelle) and her sisters Madeleine (Marcel Foidart) and Inez (Simon Duguay). She will be greatly missed by her three children, Mona (Roger Marion), Paul (Nicole), Philippe (Joanne Prescott), and her seven grandchildren, Roxanne, Chantal (Roger Turenne), Mario, Sylvie, Elise, Xavier, and Maryse Champagne. Her family and her many adoptive grandchildren were her greatest joy. Freda was born September 28, 1930 in Mariapolis, Manitoba. She was a student at the Bruxelles Convent. Freda then moved to Winnipeg. She spent many years as a teacher and influenced many students prior to becoming a loving wife and mother. Freda loved sports. At the age of 80, she was a member of a bowling league. Freda also regularly attended her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. She was an active and vocal participant at all the games. Freda will be remembered as their #1 fan. She was also passionate in politics. In 1964, Freda represented St. Emile Parish and the Catholic Parents of St. Vital to help lead the greatest student strike in the history of North America which facilitated the passage in the Legislature; the Shared Services Act for private schools in Manitoba. Later, as the first Parent Council President, Freda was influential in the creation of Ecole Lavallée (now Ecole Christine-Lespérance) in 1974. Freda's positive outlook on life was due to her strong faith. She enriched many lives with her love, hugs, kisses, and various treats. Freda will be remembered for her loving and open heart as well as her warm and welcoming home. Her caring words of Je t'aime gros, gros and Love you Big Time will be cherished forever. You will be missed Big Time. A funeral mass will be held at St. Emile Parish, 556 St. Anne's Road on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment of her cremated remains will take place at a later date. Should friends so desire, donations in Freda's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to Jocelyn House. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220
