JOYCE JEAN PSHEBNISKI (nee STASIUK) Joyce Pshebniski of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away peacefully at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre on June 27, 2011, at the age of 66 years, after complications brought on by stroke. Joyce was born on June 22, 1945, in Grandview, Manitoba and was the fourth of six children born to Michael and Katie Stasiuk (nee Maluta). She received most of her grade school education in the Postup School near Roblin, Manitoba, and in 1961, moved to Dauphin to attend the Dauphin Collegiate. In the 1960s, she worked at the Dauphin Supermarket and Bakery and Western Bakery. On July 13, 1968, she married Victor Pshebniski. She completed training from the University of Manitoba in Phase I and II Dental Assisting and was employed by Dr. Stephen A. Heschuk from 1968 - 1995. In 1992, she completed Dietary Aide training from the Assiniboine Community College and became employed by the Dauphin Regional Health Centre in Dietary, and later in Support Services, until her retirement in 2005. Mom was an avid antique collector, and for years it was her passion to attend auctions and flea markets across rural Manitoba in search of antique pieces to add to her main collections of depression glass, crocks, lady head vases, lanterns, Coke memorabilia, and fine antique furniture. She researched their history and value and enjoyed discussing antiques with other collectors and sharing her knowledge and collection with others, including school children. For mom, antiques were a tie to the past and to a generation that was influential to developing her strong ties to tradition and culture. Mom enjoyed people. She loved entertaining and the company of others. Her guests were always well fed and engaged in conversation that would most likely often end in laughter. Mom was most passionate about her family, caring for her husband and spending time with her children and her grandsons. She always put the interests of her family above her own. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Michael (1996) and Katie (2007), father-in-law, William Pshebnicki (2007), and mother-in-law, Mary Pshebnicki (2011). Left to cherish fond memories are her husband of 42 years, Victor Pshebniski, of Dauphin, Manitoba; one son, Brian (Claudette) Pshebniski, of Caledon, Ontario; one daughter, Beverly (Sung-Sik) Kwon, of Edmonton, Alberta; grandsons, Michael Pshebniski, James Pshebniski, and Carter Kwon; siblings, Victoria (Lorne) Woychyshyn, of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Sophie (Andrew) Babicz, of Dauphin, Manitoba; Bishop Peter Stasiuk, of Melbourne, Australia; Sylvia (Allan) Balcaen, of Marchand, Manitoba; Orest (Joan) Stasiuk, of Landmark, Manitoba; and one sister-in-law, Elsie (Wasyl) Boyko, of George Lake, Manitoba. Prayer service was held on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 from the Dauphin Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection. The Ukrainian Catholic Women's League (UCWL) led the Rosary at 6:30 p.m., with prayer service following at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Liturgy was celebrated from the church on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Father Oleg Bodnarski officiating. Music was provided by the Ukrainian Catholic Choir. Metro Lukie and Marvin Procyshyn served as cantors and Sung-Sik Kwon as soloist. Pallbearers were Eugene Woychyshyn, Lorna Woychyshyn, Sharon Pierce, Miles Pierce, Daniel Balcaen and Katherine Balcaen. Crossbearers were Michael Pshebniski, James Pshebniski, and Carter Kwon. Sylvia Balcaen offered the Eulogy, and Claudette Pshebniski read the Epistle. Interment followed at the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery. A special thank-you to Dr. Sheila Menard, Dr. Jason Scott, and the nurses in the Intensive Care and Palliative Care units at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre for their truly exceptional and professional care for Mom and the support they provided to our family. Donations in memory of Joyce Pshebniski may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba. Beyond Life's Gateway There's an open gate at the end of the road Through which each must go alone. And there in a light we cannot see Our Father claims His own. Beyond the gate, Mom finds happiness and rest And there is comfort in that our loving God knows best.
