RICHARD ALLAN GESWEIN It is with such great sorrow that we announce the tragic accidental passing of our beloved partner and father, Richard Allan Geswein on Thursday, July 14, 2011. Words cannot begin to describe how much he will be missed by his family and his many friends. There was nothing that Rick wouldn't do for his two sons, Damian and Jesse. He was their great supporter and everything that he did in recent years was done in an effort to create a strong future for them both. He loved them with all his heart and wanted nothing more than their happiness and their success. Nothing brought Rick more joy than his grandchildren, Kyla and Zachery. His face lit up each time they were in the room. He enjoyed long evenings watching movies with Kyla; usually something involving wildlife, monsters, or bad men. There was nothing more touching than seeing him, Kyla, and the dog lying in front of the television. Kyla will miss her Poppa. Zach was just beginning to know Rick, but he learned to say Poppa early on and this summer Rick loved watching Zach play fearlessly in the pool. Rick was a schemer and a great dreamer. He spent long hours thinking about what he could do to make an extra buck. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed the trips we made to Europe. He was looking forward to going to Italy this fall and was hoping that he could arrange to go on a truffle hunt. One of his dreams was to go wild boar hunting in the southern U.S. Regrettably, he hadn't been able to arrange that before now. Everyone who knew Rick will miss his sense of humour. He could always make you laugh and he was a very good sport when the laughs were at his expense. Rick loved the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing. After a serious accident in 2000 he was less able to participate in those activities but he loved to talk about them with anyone who would listen. As his partner of 34 years, I can only say I have lost my very good friend. I will miss you terribly but am so grateful for the time we spent together. It wasn't always easy, but we always came through it together. Be safe. Be happy. I love you so. Rick is survived by his wife, Marian Anderson; his son Damian and partner Kim Dyck and their children Kyla and Zachery; his son Jesse; his mother Joan Geswein; his brother Gerry and wife Arlene and their children Jamie Thomas and daughter Maddie, and Michael Gesweinand wife Kim and their children Mya and Conner; his brother Daryl and partner Marnie and his children Justin and Ariel; his sister-in-law Debbie Bardal; his aunts Lolly Armstrong and Doreen Mitchell; and numerous other in-laws, nieces and nephews. Rick was predeceased by his father Fred Geswein, his brother Doug Geswein, and his uncle Doug Armstrong. It is my greatest hope that they are now together. Born in Winnipeg on October 13, 1955 Rick grew up in Winnipeg and in Selkirk. He established numerous businesses over the years and now leaves that legacy to his sons. I am certain he will be watching over them as they move forward. Words cannot express our sorrow or describe how much Rick will be missed. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.
