GERHARD (GERRY) DREWS
Born: Apr 27, 1941
Date of Passing: Jul 13, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERHARD (GERRY) DREWS With sorrow we announce the passing of Gerhard (Gerry) Drews, aged 70, on Wednesday July 13, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital following a brief and swift illness. Gerry was surrounded by family at the time of his peaceful passing. Among the many who are cherishing his memory are sons Brian (Nancy) and Bradley (Diana); daughter Betty-Ann; sisters Munde (Hans) and Doris (Marcel); grandchildren Joshua, Tyler, Nicholas and Jaime; many nieces and nephews; plus dearest friend Lois. Gerry was predeceased by his beloved wife Elsie; parents Anton and Alwine; and brother Gottholdt. Born in Poland on April 27, 1941, Gerry traveled as a young boy to Winnipeg in 1949 with family as a refugee of war torn Europe. He eventually developed master mason skills and made it his profession. Many major schools, apartment and office buildings that grace Winnipeg's skyline and throughout the province of Manitoba remain today as a legacy of Gerry's proud workmanship. Gerry's early and enduring fascination for horses was expressed throughout his life with care and ownership of many of the animals. He loved to ride and show his horses. Some of his proudest days were giving generously as a Shriner and member of their Arabian Horse Guard. Gerry spent his retirement years at his small hobby farm near Beausejour enjoying the company of family and friends, watching sports, gardening and of course, trail riding. Happy trails, you will be missed and never forgotten. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion. At request of the deceased, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Cremation has occurred and a private family celebration of Gerry's life will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
