Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY EUGENE CLARKSON HICKS (nee ROSPAD) On July 12, 2011 in her 90th year, Mary Eugene Clarkson Hicks (née Rospad) passed away peacefully at Dinsdale Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Bernadette and son-in-law the Rt. Rev'd. Jim Njegovan; her grandchildren; the Venerable Noah Njegovan of Brandon and Jessica Gaines of Streetsville, Mississauga and their family. As well, she is survived by her sister Christine McDonald of Surrey, B.C. and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada and Minnesota. Mary was predeceased by her infant son Barry; her husband Bernard Clarkson in 1956; her husband Harold Hicks; her daughter Angela; her parents Anna and Joseph Rospad, her sisters Elizabeth, Antoinette, and Tillie, and her brothers Harold and Lorne. Mary was a graduate Registered Nurse of St. Joseph's Hospital, Winnipeg. She was recognized as a lead OR nurse at St. Boniface Hospital, working on innovative heart surgeries in the early 1960s. Due to allergies to surgical gloves she switched to private duty. These years prepared her for the care she would later give to her second husband and her daughter, Angela for years at home. With her passing her family wishes it revealed that Mary was an original founder of CancerCare Manitoba. As well, she was a start-up member of Roses a support group for those caring for terminally ill family members, out of St. Ignatius parish, Winnipeg. Mary's social passions were golf, bowling, and bridge and she deeply valued her friends. Mass of the Resurrection has taken place at St. Augustine's parish, Brandon and interment in St. Boniface Cemetery, Winnipeg. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to the living saints - the complete staff of Dinsdale Care Home, the Clergy and pastoral care teams of St. Augustine's for their weekly visits while Mom was in hospital and resident in Dinsdale.
