ZEPHERINA SCHMIDT January 22, 1913 - July 12, 2011 Our Mom passed away peacefully on July 12 at the Fisher Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her husband Fred; grandson Jigger; her parents Valerie and Julien Payment; as well as all of her siblings Joe, Rose, Louis, Delima, Alice, Nap and Teddy. She leaves to mourn her passing her children Freddy (Anita), Rosie (Cubby), and Evelyn (George); her grandchildren Janet, Susan, Freddy Jr., Debbie, Doug, Karl, Kris and Georgie. Mom was born six miles east of Fisher Branch. From early childhood, Zepherina had always wanted to be a nurse but this was impossible in those days. On October 24, 1931 Mom and Dad were married, and the Schmidt homestead became her home until they moved into town in 1948. When Fisher Branch Hospital was built she became a ward aide. Her dream finally came true in the 1950s when she was awarded her L.P.N. and X-ray technician license, which she had taken by correspondence. Mom was an excellent, caring and compassionate nurse who would help anyone and everyone in need. Before the hospital opened and after it closed Mom was called on to deliver babies. Mom also worked in the Arborg Hospital where her caring and fun loving nature endeared her to many. Mom and Dad moved to Winnipeg but came back home after a few years. They began travelling south for the winters and continued going south for 25 years, which they loved. The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to all the staff at the P.C.H. for 12 years of compassionate and caring dedication. We shall be eternally grateful. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 18 in the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church of Fisher Branch at 1:00pm with Rev. Father Paul Bisson officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Fisher Personal Care Home Foundation Inc., Box 548, Fisher Branch, MB, R0C 0Z0 or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. It has been a long struggle, Mom, and now it is time to rest peacefully. God Bless. MOM Remember Mom with a smile today She was not one for tears, Reflect instead, on the memories Of all the happy years. Recall to mind the way she spoke And her sayings that she said, Her strength, her wit, The way she walked Remember these instead. The good advice she gave us Her eyes that shone with laughter, So much of her that never dies But lives on ever after. She was a woman of honesty, Integrity and pride, Important was the way she lived Not the way she died. If a tear should fall today Perhaps it shall be shed For the many years without her here That still lie far ahead. FISHER FUNERAL HOME INC. In care of arrangements. Fisher Branch, MB (204) 372-6271 or 372-6803
