WAYNE ALEXANDER RANKIN 1958 - 2011 Suddenly, while playing hockey, the sport he loved, Wayne Alexander Rankin of Morden Manitoba, passed away. Wayne was born in Killarney, Manitoba, February 7, 1958, to Clare and Edith Rankin. He grew up on the family farm with his younger brother, Dean and sister, Susan. Wayne began playing hockey at the age of five and never quit playing. He graduated from Killarney Collegiate in 1976 and worked in Killarney and on the farm with his brother and stepfather, Shorty Brown, until 1986. Wayne married Shelly Sorensen on November 25, 1989 in Killarney United Church. They moved to Morden in 1990 to begin working with Rana-Medical. Wayne then moved on to work in the computer business, where he built a strong name for himself. Wayne and Shelly had two girls, Taylor Elyse and Alexandra Lauren. Together they became strong members of the Morden community. Wayne was very involved in many community activities. He played a major role in Morden Minor Hockey. He was active in the Manitoba Umpire Association. He achieved level 4 standing and had umpired at numerous Nationals across Canada, as well as being involved throughout Manitoba, umpiring at a variety of levels. Wayne was a very strong member of the Morden United Church. He participated in all aspects of the church life. Wayne was devoted to his family and cherished his wife and two daughters. Wayne's legacy will continue through the many people he touched. Wayne is survived by his wife, Shelly Rankin (nee Sorensen), his daughters, Taylor and Ali, his mother, Edith Brown, his brother, Dean Rankin and sister, Susan Rankin and husband, Jim Ross, nieces Megan and Emma Ross as well as Harvey and Betty Sorensen, David and Lindsay Sorensen and nephews, Keaton and Rylan and many aunts and uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Clare Alexander Rankin and stepfather, Shorty Brown. There will be no viewing. Funeral service will be held (today) Saturday July 16, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church, 353 Thornhill St. in Morden with a private family interment at Chapel Cemetery. In memory of Wayne, donations may be made to either of the organizations of Kid Sport or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
