John also leaves behind his friend of four years, Donna Golding, to whom the family extends their greatest heartfelt appreciation and shares deeply in her grief. John was born on March 19, 1957. He excelled at anything he applied his determination to whether it was sports or scholastic studies. In Grade 12 he was part of a forward thinking, radical student council at River East Collegiate which was immensely successful in filling student body coffers. He graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a degree in economics and after briefly dabbling with a banking position decided to enroll in the Chartered Accountant curriculum of studies. Once again he excelled at this endeavor and by his early thirties he was elevated to Partner status in the firm of Palmer Badger Co. John's client's appreciated his professional, encompassing yet engaging approach to their business affairs. Students and staff welcomed his challenging yet genuine and fair attitude towards them. Many of John's clients, students and staff made time to keep in touch with him after he retired. It was during his studies at U of W that John met Ingrid, his complement companion in so many ways. Nik was born just prior to John obtaining his CA degree and Anna soon after. The four of them enjoyed family holidays across Canada and John was particularly fond of watching the development of Nik and Anna in sports, faithfully attending their practices and games. He was proud to see Nik start his journey towards becoming an electrician, Anna completing her firefighting course and watching Anna and Geoff begin their trek towards a long and loving relationship. John was most at home and happiest in the bosom of his family. The family expresses the deepest gratitude to the Doctors, Surgeons, and Nurses at the Grace Hospital ICU and the Health Sciences Centre CCU. We know they did their utmost in providing a dignified and comfortable end for John. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nicholas and Annie Dawyduk Scholarship in Medicine and Ukrainian Studies, a scholarship formed through various family bequests, named in honour of John's grandparents and one which John took a personal hand in establishing, care of the University of Manitoba, 179 Extended Education Complex Winnipeg, MB R3T 2N2.
