DAWN ANGELA PROULX (nee GERSTMAR) January 19, 1960 - July 14, 2011 In the still night of July 14, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital, Dawn quietly slipped from this life. Loving hands were there to hold her, loving voices there to sooth her and many were thinking of her. She will be forever missed by her loving husband Dwayne Proulx; children, Joshua (fiancée Amanda) and Matthew; her brothers and sisters, Kirby (Joanne) of Ottawa, Darlene (Rob), and Brian (Annie) of Toronto. Also left to mourn are her grandmother Mary Gerstma and her uncle Joe (Jane), along with countless other family and friends. She was predeceased by her grandfather Joseph Gerstmar, born in Mor, Hungary and parents, Kenneth Gerstmar and Kathleen Gerstmar (Nee Frisby) born in Kettering, Northamptonshire, England. Born, January 19, 1960, Dawn lived her entire life in Winnipeg. Her accounting career included 25 years at New Directions and five years with the Government of Manitoba. Dawn was a feisty woman whose brave heart, tenderness and wicked sense of humour (our condolences to the shoe stores everywhere who will undoubtedly feel the crunch) have left indelible footprints on all whose lives she touched. In doing so she fulfilled the greatest imperative of life...to love and be loved. A celebration of Dawn's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Our gratitude is extended to the Earth Angels of the palliative care unit whose comfort and compassion were inexhaustible. At Dawn's request, flowers are gratefully declined. Anyone who wishes, may make a donation to a place held close to her heart: Quagga Stray Cat Rescue (No Kill Shelter), 970 St. Mary's Road, St. Vital, Winnipeg, Manitoba R2M 3R8. But, oh for the touch of a vanished hand and the sound of a voice that is still ...Tennyson Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I had been thinking of my childhood friend for a very long time, wanting to reach out to her and see what she was doing in her life. In the meantime, things always seemed to get in the way as I was living up in Fort McMurray at this time and never did contact Dawn. When I came back to Manitoba in 2017, I was driving semi truck and thought of her often but again just didn't reach out, not realizing she was already gone. I am now so very sorry that I didn't. Dawn, growing up, always had that amazing sense of humor. She missed her calling and should have been a comedian with the sense of humor that she had. We were inseparable for many years, talking about our crushes, our wants, dislikes and the things that, at the time, were so very important to us. Then, as teenagers ended up losing touch. It makes me so terribly sad to think that she is gone. Condolences to Darlene and family. Love Joanne Churchill. - Posted by: Joanne Churchill (Friend) on: Jun 13, 2025

  • I had the opportunity to work with Dawn in 2009 and 2010. She was a breath of fresh air in a government setting, willing to give 110%. Her laugh and shoe collection remain strong memories for me. She was taken far too soon. My condolences to her family, friends and co-workers. Brigid Hayes - Posted by: Brigid Hayes` (Acquaintance) on: Jul 28, 2011
