Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRIEDA BUHR (STEWIN) 1922 - 2011 It with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Frieda at Golden Links Lodge on Saturday, July 16, 2011. Survived by and deeply missed by her loving husband John, daughter Valerie and husband Vern, granddaughters Diana and Chelsea, great-grandson Asher, brother Bob, nephews Wayne (Jessie) and Grant, Buhr family members, good friend Irene and cousin Elsie (Al). She was predeceased by her parents, Adolf and Teofila Stewin, brother Herb Stevens and his wife Vi, brother Bill, sister-in-law Laura Stewin and nephew Craig Stevens. The family wishes to thank Dr. Salem and the nurses and staff at Golden Links Lodge for the warm and loving care given. Frieda was born in Charlottenhof, Germany in 1922 and arrived in Winnipeg in 1924 where she spent the rest of her life. She loved music and singing in quartets and choirs at her church. Her singing highlight was being in a massed choir at a Billy Graham youth rally. She married John in 1959 and when Valerie arrived she became a stay at home mother. She enjoyed her life as wife, mother and grandmother. In 1984 Frieda and John bought a cottage at Twin Lakes Beach, fulfilling a life long dream of owning a lake front cottage. She loved cottage life and sharing it with family. When failing health made it hard to get around, she missed the cottage the most. Due to failing health, she had to enter a nursing home in 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with pastor Jake Froese officiating. Interment will follow.
