ALWINA GERDA WOLFF May 19, 1919 July 16, 2011 Peacefully, our beloved Oma was taken into the hands of the Lord on July 16 at Concordia Hospital at the age of 92. Left to forever cherish her memory are, her daughter Beatrix Wolff, her sons Hubert Stark (Diana) and Hans Stark (Linda), her beloved grandchildren Tracey Goring, Lori Frain (Sean), Jeff Stark (Jodie), Derek Stark (Theresa) and Stephen Stark (Christina) and the greatest joys of her life, her great-grandchildren Tyler, Zach, Liam, Katrina, Kyle, Bailey, Miranda, Jacob, Clay, Dakota, Kaile. She also left behind family in Germany and Russia. Gerda was born in a small town near Omsk in Siberia USSR and was the youngest of 14 children. Her journey of life had a lot of hardships in it due to the wars including the Second World War in which she lost her infant daughter Sabine. After the war she was in Grossburgwedel where she met and married August Wolff. They immigrated to Canada in 1950 and settled in the Plumas area and took up farming. With sacrifice and hard work they made their farm successful until in 1965 August suddenly passed away. The farm was sold and Gerda and Beatrix moved into Winnipeg. Gerda's first job was with Richardson's making frost shields. She then obtained a job at Eaton's in the bakery. From there she went to work in the kitchen at St. John's and from there at University College from where she retired. She loved to travel and did go back to Germany to see her relatives as well as on bus tours of Europe, USA, and cruises. Mom was talented and wrote poetry when she was younger, did beautiful needlepoint and crochet work. She had a green thumb and enjoyed her houseplants. Family was very important to Oma and her biggest enjoyment was having her family around her and she entertained everyone with her singing and playing the mouth organ. She will be greatly missed by her family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church at 1541 St. Mary's Rd. at 10:30 a.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care, 1045 Concordia Ave. R2K 3S7 or Beautiful Savior Lutheran School, 52 Birchdale Ave., R2H 1R9.
