LORNE HUFF November 10, 1938 - July 18, 2011 Peacefully on July 18, 2011, following a brief illness, at Riverview Health Centre Lorne Huff passed away at the age of 72. Lorne will be lovingly remembered by his son, Kelly (Donna), granddaughter Angela, partner Marlyn Gilbert, brothers and sisters Joyce, Jim, Roy (Gaye), Ed, Shirley (Ron), Bob (Paulette), Diane, sister-in-law Linda and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as Marlyn's family Patti (Tim), Rick, Val, grandchildren Kendall, Mitchell, and Meseret. He was predeceased by wife Wilma in 2000, sister Lorraine, brother Rick, brother-in-law Dennis, and his parents Ed and Gladys. Lorne started work with The Canadian Wheat Board where he met his wife Wilma. He went on to join the R.C.M.P. He then began a 25 year career with the Fort Garry Police before amalgamation and then The Winnipeg Police, where he was instrumental in establishing the polygraph division. He retired with the rank of Detective Sergeant in 1986. After retiring he started his own business, Huff Polygraph and Investigations. He did exams for a variety of businesses, law firms and private matters. He also did testing for fish tournaments in Kenora, Dryden and Fort Francis. Lorne was known for and lived by his integrity and respect. Whether this interaction was professional or personal, his advice was always sound. This is what made him an exceptional police officer, friend or loved one. During his time he made many lifelong friends, including The Rounders at The Pembina Hotel. From Kop Out Clothing to the many social gatherings and Police Hockey Championships he made the most of his adventures. He enjoyed a good time and a good laugh and was known for his sarcastic wit and will be sadly missed by many. Upon his retirement he enjoyed many trips to Florida and most recently Texas with good friends. However, his most special spot was Trout Lake, Ontario. He and his family started vacationing there in 1964, making many lasting memories and friendships. He always said he was in heaven when he was there. His ashes will be spread at Trout Lake on a later date where he can forever be in heaven. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. with Reverend Colin Peterson presiding. The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre 3E especially Helen. Lorne donated generously to many children's charities. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lorne's memory to The Sunshine Fund , 302-960 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 0R4 so a child may attend camp this summer.
