DOROTHY (DOT) ELEANOR SEED (nee CHILWELL) February 15, 1942 July 17, 2011 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy Seed on July 17, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital, after a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 69 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband Charles (Chuck) Seed, sister-in-law Dorothy Martin and brother-in-law Albert Martin. She will be sadly missed by her mother Irene Harte, sister Sharon (Edward) Saunders, daughter Sheri-Lynn (David) Wheeler, stepdaughter Brenda Seed, stepson Richard Seed, grandchildren Sarah and Ronald Seed, sister-in-law Carol Cherniuk, many nieces, nephews and her dear friend Sharon Glazier. During her early adult years, Dot worked at Deer Lodge Hospital in the cafeteria. There she met her future husband Chuck. After their marriage, she quit work and became a full time mother and homemaker. When her youngest child Sheri-Lynn went to school, she worked for a short time in the cafeteria at the Ford Plant on Ellice Ave. and also worked with her husband at the Deer Lodge Community Centre for a while. In later years, she became involved with the bingo at the community centre where she worked in the canteen. There she made many wonderful friends. Dot loved her flowers and spent lots of time keeping her yard in top shape. She loved the smell of her lilac bush in the late spring and picking peony bouquets to bring into the house. She waited patiently for all the irises and tiger lilies to bloom to add color to her beautiful garden. She couldn't wait to get out to the garden centre to buy the annuals and her passion, tomato plants. She always said, The only good tomato is a home grown tomato . Crosswords, jigsaw puzzles and especially bingo were her favourite things to do. Most of all she enjoyed family gatherings, playing with the kids, joking with the adults and eating. Any day she could enjoy someone else's cooking was a great day. She will never really be gone, as she will forever live in our hearts. The family would like to thank CancerCare, Dr. Marianne Krahn, Home Care and especially Trish who was her primary home care nurse. We would also like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care unit for the excellent care in her final days. Dorothy could not have been in more loving hands. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society. In keeping with Dot's wishes, cremation and interment have already taken place. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 4000 Portage Ave. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
