DR. CHRISTINE (CHRIS) HEURING
Date of Passing: Jul 18, 2011
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. CHRISTINE (CHRIS) HEURING Surrounded by family and friends, Christine (Chris) passed away peacefully on July 18, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Predeceased by her father Allan, she is mourned by her daughter Lee (Dustin); mother Sheila; siblings, David (Chris), Greg (Renee), Laura (Peter) and Paul (Ivonne). She is also remembered by her nieces and nephews: Adam (Chrissy), Tyler, Jesse, Kaitlyn, Jasmine, Steven, Andrew and Dayna; grandnephews, Nicholas and Jaxon; as well as the Allen / Jennings family: Craig, Walter, Jo Ann, Jill, Coleman, Ethan and Avery; and longtime family friends, Frances and Bob Harris. Chris had a distinguished education: a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Manitoba (1983), an M.A. in Counseling/Student Services from the University of North Texas (1990), and a PhD. in Business and Management from the University of South Australia (2003). Chris's life was marked by the exotic locales in which she lived and worked, with time spent in China, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan and Atlanta among other places, before she settled in Austin, Texas to teach in the Department of Management at Texas State University. Even from the most distant of places, Chris still found the time and energy to keep in touch with her family and friends, and visits to Winnipeg, often around Christmas, were frequent and will forever be cherished. She was content to just spend time visiting and having long talks, which always made for an enjoyable time. Chris had a passion for teaching; whether it was in the classroom with students learning English as a second language, aspiring business majors, or with her siblings, and later nieces and nephews. Chris always sought to incorporate an element of learning and progression into her conversations and interactions with others. Chris was keen for one to pursue his or her own dreams and goals. So why don't you...? was a common piece of advice she offered. Her advice and counsel were never rushed or illogical, but rather constantly valuable and sound. Her own determination manifested itself in the area of home improvement - especially after purchasing homes in Winnipeg, Dallas, Atlanta and finally, Austin - some done by her and the remainder done by well-vetted contractors. Chris will be dearly missed by all of those who shared a place in her life. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Thank you to CancerCare Manitoba and the Health Sciences Emergency Department during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, it is asked that donations be directed to an educational or poverty charity of the donor's choice. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193

Chris you were the older brianiac cousin whom I adored. Loved hearing the stories of where you were and what you were doing. Have thought of you often over the years and am saddened the world lost you way too soon. It has been 5 years now and I am sure your missed greatly. - Posted by: Rita Rewerts (Cousin) on: May 17, 2016

I met Christine as she walked her dog & I worked in my yard. I noticed a decline in her health, but she never said a word - just shrugged. She was a lovely woman and clearly a kind soul. My thoughts are with you as the first anniversary approaches. I'm sorry it took this long to actually look to see why I have not seen her in so long. - Posted by: Tracey Chance (Austin neighbor) on: May 19, 2012

My husband and I met Christine after she moved to Austin and bought a house on our block. We always thoroughly enjoyed talking to Christine when we saw her. She always had time to talk to us -- at the store or walking her dog. We hadn't seen Christine for quite a while and we are devastated to hear of her passing. Christine was a joy to know. - Posted by: Stacie de Lespine McGill (Neighbor) on: Mar 30, 2012

Christine was one of the best and kindest neighbors I may ever know. Our talks were filled with interesting facts and laughter. We think of her when hosting special occasions in our home as she would often attend (I believe to assess our home improvements as she was a bit competitive in that way). I still see her walking her dog and working in her hard, so very proud and happy. Forever, she will be in our hearts and on our minds. Fred and I were shocked and saddened to read of Chris' passing. The last time we saw her she was awaiting papers to re-enter the US. Our family always enjoyed hearing from her - she had such adventures and posed interesting questions. Our heartfelt condolences to all her family. - Posted by: Fred&Christine Eldridge (Friend) on: Jul 27, 2011
