Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEGART MERTIN It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Egart Mertin on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital. Left to cherish Egart's memory are his beloved wife Mariette (Munchkin); brother Erwin; sons Allan (Dianne), Robert (Susan); stepdaughter Sheila (Randy); stepson John; grandchildren James, Neil, Nicolas, Daniel, Michael and Justin. He was predeceased by his brothers Ewald, Erich, Edmond, Eerhart and sister Elsa. Egart Mertin was born in Maidan, Ukraine on September 22, 1930. He came to Canada in the early 1950s. Egart worked as a baker at McGavin Bakery. He loved all sports, particularly football and he regularly played badminton. Egart and Mariette enjoyed walking and discovering new places. Egart was a cheerful, kind and elegant spirit who was truly loved by all the 500 Tache Community where he lived for the past four and one half years. Egart was a true gentleman and will be sincerely missed by all who knew him. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Pastor Terry Sawatsky, Dr. Jaffe, and all the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit. A special thanks goes to the 500 Tache Community for all the compassion and caring they have shown. A service honouring Egart will take place on Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church, 145 Henderson Highway.
