DOROTHY BERNICE BALDWIN September 15, 1919 - July 16, 2011 Bernice succumbed to oral cancer. Bernice, in view of her age, opted to allow the malignancy to run its course rather than submit to surgery, the only option she was offered. She remained in her own home as was her wish where she received excellent home care. Around the clock care entailed a large staff too numerous to name but if you were one of them, as you read this consider yourself named and accept our sincere appreciation. Bernice was born in Warren, MB, the sixth of 14 and is survived by seven siblings, in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews. Coming near the middle of a large family her formative years were spent helping mother tend to younger siblings. Finally venturing into the world of employment she worked several years throughout Ontario eventually establishing a lifetime relationship with Charlie Wilson who predeceased her by several years. While in Ontario, she enrolled in a pilot project in Windsor, ON, whose goal was to train nurses in two years rather than the traditional three, graduating in 1952. Here she cultivated some enduring friendships. Educationally oriented, she went on to earn a degree at United College (University of Winnipeg) again bonding lasting friendships, and later obtained her B.N. Her training led to various endeavors including evening supervisor at the Children's Hospital, summer relief work in northern Saskatchewan, a course in midwifery and five years in Public Health. She bought the Baldwin house in Warren in 1957 where she continued to reside to the time of her passing. Actively interested in politics she played an active role in trying to right wrongs as she saw them and championing the underprivileged. Generous to the extreme, she used her resources to alleviate any perceived need. Extremely conscious of the environment she took every opportunity to promote green practices. No formal service will be held. A private interment will follow. If you wish to honour Bernice's memory then simply practice humility, integrity and a caring attitude or by making a donation to Southwest District Palliative Care, Box 1282, Stonewall, MB R0C 2Z0 or to a charity of your choice. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
