JOHN STRICKLAND After a brief battle with lung cancer, John passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock, BC, at the age of 68. He leaves to mourn his passing Donna, his wife of 47 years; son Johnathan (Tik), daughter Jennifer (Marty), special daughter Victoria (his great-niece whom he raised), and his loyal and beloved dog Teddy. Born in Hawkhurst, Kent, England, he immigrated at the age of 12, spending most of his life in Manitoba, before setting out for the milder winters of British Columbia. John served in the American Army during the Vietnam era and completed a tour of duty in Korea, earning numerous medals and commendations. His career took many paths including Employment and Immigration in Winnipeg, the Worker's Compensation Board of Manitoba and up to his passing, at Work Safe BC in Richmond. John was an avid hunter and trapshooter in his early years, after which computers and spending time with his dogs became his next passions. A true jack of all trades, John could build, fix or figure out whatever he encountered, and loved passing his knowledge and skills to others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. There will be no memorial service at John's request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
