DOROTHEA MERYL (FERRIS) PLOHMAN Peacefully at Boundary Trails Health Center, on July 20, 2011, Meryl passed away with her loving husband and family by her side, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Meryl was born Febuary 14, 1938, in Wawanesa. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Reta Ferris, sister Donna McGowan and husband Bruce, brother Clare and wife Margery. Survived by her husband Bill of 48 years, sons Brad (Rhonda), James (Brenda), daughter Jennifer (Tim), and two granddaughters, Paige and Hailey, who brought so much joy and delight to their grandmother. Also surviving, are her brother Bob (Joan) Ferris of Killarney and sister Kay (Paul) Koteck of Regina, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law Joyce (Mel) Warttig, and Carolyn McGuire. Meryl completed grade 12 in Wawanesa then attended teacher training at Brandon College. She taught for seven years during which time she met and married Bill. Bill's position with CP Rail saw them spend time in many parts of Canada including Kenora, Montreal, Thunder Bay, Vancouver, and three moves to Winnipeg, making many friends and seeing lots of country wherever they lived. Crafts and hobbies were a big part of Meryl's life. Some of her many interests were floral design, oil painting, furniture refinishing, calligraphy, quilting and making fleece blankets, and genealogy. Friends and family enjoyed receiving cedar Christmas arrangements made by Meryl each December. Meryl enjoyed curling and cross country skiing in the winter, and spent her summers gardening and landscaping at home and at their cottage in Kenora. Kayaking was also a favourite pastime at the lake. Funeral service will be held at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie Street on Monday, July 25, at 11:00 with reception to follow. A family service will follow at Green Acres, Hwy. # 1 East. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Thanks to the health care providers at CancerCare and Boundary Trails Health Center, the palliative home care staff and Doctor Cornelius J. Woelk.
