ROBERT BERTHIN September 21, 1938 - July 23, 2011 Robert Ernest Berthin passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, as a result of colon and liver cancer. Dear husband of 46 years to Judy Berthin (nee Baxendale). Loving father of Tom and his wife Sonya Berthin of Winnipeg, MB, Dave and his wife Tracy Berthin of Avon, New York, USA. Fun-loving grandpa to Steven and Staycee (Tom and Sonya's children), Elise, Michael, Jocelyn and Luke (Dave and Tracy's children). Survived by two older brothers, Bill Berthin Sr., of Cambridge, George and his wife Ella Berthin of Ottawa. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, friends, neighbours and former co-workers. Predeceased by his parents Paul and Lydia Berthin (nee Kieling). Bob was born and raised in Winnipeg, MB. He moved to Waterloo after his family relocated to Waterloo County in 1956. After 33 years of dedicated service with Waterloo North Hydro (Waterloo Public Utilities Commission), he took early retirement in 1993. Bob was a long time faithful member of First United Church in Waterloo. As a friend, relative, husband, father or grandfather, Bob always tried to have a little fun in life and he did, right up to the end. The Berthin family will receive friends at the Erb Good Family Funeral Home 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. A Memorial service to celebrate Bob's life will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Thursday, July 28, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bryan Ferguson officiating. Immediately following the service everyone is invited to a reception in the Fireside Reception Room of the funeral home for a time of fellowship, food and refreshments. A private cremation has taken place.
