HELEN DYCK On Sunday, July 24, 2011 Helen Dyck (nee Friesen) peacefully passed away at the Bethania Personal Care Home at the age of 92. Helen was born on December 11, 1918 in Osterwick, Ukraine the second youngest in a family of 12 brothers and sisters. In spite of the very turbulent and frightening times, Helen met and married William on December 3, 1938. In 1948, after the war they immigrated to Canada settling in Rheinland, Manitoba. After two years William moved the family to Winnipeg where he had been apprenticing as a plasterer and where they then raised their family. Helen was baptized in 1942 and from the day she believed, she lived a life that reflected her love of the Lord in all that she did. Her love was consistent and unwavering. Helen displayed an unconditional love with her family and with everyone she met. Her later years were characterized by declining health. She spent the last nine years of her life at Bethania Personal Care Home where the angels on July 24 softly and tenderly carried her home. She always knew where she was going. Helen was predeceased by her husband William in 1996; her parents Jacob and Anna Friesen; brothers Jacob, Johan, Peter, Isaak, Abram and another brother, Isaak in infancy; sisters Tina, Maria, Susanna, Liese and Neta; and her sister Anna who also immigrated to Canada in 1948, passed away in 1994. She is survived by her four children; son William (Noreen) of Calgary; daughters Margaret (Henry) Siemens of Winnipeg, Helene Harper of New Zealand, Irene (Robert) Carter of Winnipeg; grandchildren Diana Giesbrecht, Henry Siemens, Donna Siemens (Orest Andrews), Monique Ethier of New Zealand, Mia (Paul) Beswick of New Zealand, Chris Carter of Calgary, Jeremy Carter of Winnipeg and Nathan Dyck of Calgary; six great-grandchildren, Geneva and Geoffrey Giesbrecht, Kali and Henry Hayden Siemens, Theo Dorge and Aja Ethier; and many nieces and nephews, friends and acquaintances whose lives she enriched with her prayers. The family extends their deepest gratitude for the loving care she received from the staff at Bethania Personal Care Home in particular the last week of her life. An intimate memorial service and celebration of Helen's life will be held at Friends Funeral Service on July 29, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. following a private family internment. If friends so desire, donations may be made in her memory to the Bethania Personal Care home. Helen lived a long life, a worthy life and a life of righteousness.
