JACOB D. THIESSEN Jacob D. Thiessen (Jack) was born to Jacob and Anna Thiessen on March 8, 1927 at Rheinthal near Plum Coulee. He passed away unexpectedly at the age of 84 years in his home in Winnipeg on July 21, 2011. He grew up in the Rheinthal area and at the age of 17, he left Manitoba and went to work in BC. He served in the Army during the Korean war and after the war; he worked for McMillan Bloedel in Vancouver until his retirement at 60 years old. He lived in Surrey for most of his years. When he retired, he sold his house in Surrey and moved back to Manitoba. He bought a condo in the Cambridge South Condominiums and lived there until his passing. Jack was single all his life and always was very independent right to the end. He was very reluctant to ask for help and usually turned it down when it was offered. When he voluntarily gave up driving his car in 2006, he bought a scooter and used it to go grocery shopping and go to other appointments, he did this summer and winter. In his passing he leaves four brothers, Bill and Anne of Abbotsford, BC, John of Winkler, Henry and Sue of Winnipeg, Dave and Justina of Winkler, three sisters, Katie and Ben of Altona, Anne of Abbotsford BC, Sarah and Abe of Winkler and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
