ISOBEL ELIZABETH KREVIAZUK (nee KOWALUK) Peacefully, Mom passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at Misericordia Health Centre. Mom was predeceased by an infant daughter, her husband Mike, son-in-law, Dave, and two precious grandsons, Michael and David. She is survived by her children, Eleanor, Brian (Marilyn) and Linda (Eric); grandchildren Denise, Danny, Breanne and Adam; great-grandchildren, Jade and Devon; sister Doreen; Dad's sister Ann, many nieces and nephews and several wonderful friends that she had loved along the way. Mom was born in Gonor on January 25, 1920, the second of five children born to Julia and Harry Kowaluk. She married Dad in 1938 and they settled in Lockport on the east side of the river. They later moved their little house to Old England on to 10 acres of land, and there they raised their family. After the three of us were born, Mom started work in the mid-1950s at the Manitoba Motor Club, at the Historic Lower Fort Garry. There she worked as a hostess as well as pastry chef. Later, she worked at Francis Jewellers in Selkirk for 26 years. She truly loved her work there, helping so many customers to choose just the right gift . Mom was an active member of Little Britain United Church until moving to Winnipeg in 2003 to live closer to her daughter. She was a lifelong member of the UCW, worked at many fall suppers and acted as treasurer of the church for many years. She was an active member of the Easter Star Selkirk Chapter and through that organization, met many new friends and created new memories that she cherished. Mom was a loving grandma and enjoyed every moment spent with her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy and she was always sharing stories of their activities and accomplishments. Mom had many interests and special gifts and talents to share. She was a talented and self-taught seamstress. She hand-sewed her own wedding dress, and sewed the wedding dresses for her daughters. When we were growing up, all of our clothes were sewn by her loving hands. She had a beautiful sense of style. She was always extremely well dressed every day for work, sewing everything herself, even tailored suits and jackets. She could knit and crochet works of art. The table cloths, baby clothes, skating outfits and especially her warm double-mittens will be saved and cherished. Mom loved to cook for her family and friends, and was never afraid to try new recipes. But, her ultimate best creations were her shortbread cookies at Christmas and her delicious perogies. Many of us were lucky to be on the receiving end of her little Christmas gift of her shortbread tucked into a crocheted dish cloth and tied with a ribbon. Mom was never afraid of hard work. She would toil hard with Dad in his market garden and in her flower beds, and was always there to lend a helping hand to whoever needed her. And of course, we cannot forget how she loved to have her family over every week for Sunday dinner. And her patio in the summer time. Every day after dinner, she and Dad would sit on the patio and enjoy the evening in their yard with the birds and flowers. Dad passed away when she was 63, and she continued to work. After retirement, she became a traveller, visiting England, Hawaii, and journeying to many states and provinces. And Mom could paint. Not only did she paint the inside and outside of our family home every five years, she was a talented artist, working with oil and canvas. She did not even know that she had this talent until she retired and joined the Senior Centre in Selkirk. Then she began by painting landscapes of many places that she had visited on her travels. Mom loved playing cards and enjoyed playing crib with family and friends, right until the end. Mom was extremely independent and active in all aspects of her life. Even in her 80s, she still cut her own two acres of lawn on her riding lawn mower, even if she did let Eric blow the snow from her driveway in the winter. At the Misericordia, she was known for her independence and her positive attitude, and was still making new friends during her stay there. We would like to thank the staff on Cornish 2 at the MHC for their wonderful care and tender compassion shown to our Mom. The funeral will be on Friday, July 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Little Britain United Church. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made in her name to Little Britain United Church, 5879 Hwy #9, Lockport, MB R1A 2P7. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
