Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE RUSSELL July 16, 1923 July 27, 2011 It is will sadness we announce the passing of George Russell on July 27th, 2011 at Deer Lodge Centre. George is survived by his brother Jim, niece Jan Merrick, nephew Larry (Charlene) Merrick and step daughter Pat Schwartz (Jim). George was born and raised in Winnipeg and graduated from Gordon Bell High School in 1940. He was employed in the construction field for 42 and a half years except for 3 and a half years which he served in the Canadian Army. George was employed for over 24 years with Bird Construction Co. as water boy, timekeeper, shipper and estimator, five years as estimator with F.W. Sawatzky Construction (now FWS) and 10 years as partner, secretary and estimator for Har-Kal Construction (now Pre-Con Builders). George served as secretary, treasurer and director of the Kiwanis Club of Fort Garry from 1962 1965. George enjoyed curling, watching baseball, football and hockey. He also liked to travel and especially enjoyed his 17 trips to Hawaii with his partner Betty Johnson whom he missed dearly. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway.
