Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN ISABELL ARMSTRONG Jean Isabell Armstrong, aged 96, passed away on July 13, 2011 at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. Jean was born April 21, 1915 on the family homestead near Sinclair in Southwestern Manitoba. She was predeceased by her father John, her mother Janet and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sister-in-law Harlaine, her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Jean grew up on the farm and attended nearby Crescent School. She received teachers training at Normal School and came back to teach at Crescent School for several years before moving to Winnipeg. In the 1940s she began what would be over 40 years of service with the Government of Canada many of which were as an employment counsellor. She enjoyed her work and took a genuine interest in helping her clients. Jean was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Winnipeg Canoe Club. She also enjoyed 5 pin bowling and curling. She lived for many years on Hargrave Street in Winnipeg and was a member of nearby St. Stephen's Broadway United Church. After her retirement she completed her Bachelor of Arts in Geography at the University of Winnipeg and travelled widely. The family would like to thank the staff of the Thorvaldson Care Centre and the St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion. According to Jean's wishes, no formal service will be held.
