JOHN ASHFORD GOODMAN October 15, 1916 - July 25, 2011 It is with great sadness and loving memories we announce the passing of John (Jack) Ashford Goodman on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Deer Lodge Centre with family at his side. Jack is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Ivy; and his brothers, Harry and Montague. Left to cherish Jack's memory are his beloved wife Mona; his children, Gloria, Valerie (Dave), Lynn (Terry), Stephen (Leslie) and Glenn; and his very special granddaughter Naomi. Jack was born in Winnipeg on October 15, 1916. He attended Pinkham School, Hugh John Macdonald and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate institute. At the age of 16 he became a sheet metal apprentice at Canadian Rogers. In 1942, Jack enlisted in the army and served overseas in the Royal Canadian Engineers Corps until his discharge in 1945. On his return to Winnipeg, Jack met Mona, at the Normandy Dance Hall and they were married on July 27, 1951 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. While raising their family together in Winnipeg, Jack continued to work as a sheet metalist at the Arnett Company, CAE, Air Canada and Saunders Aircraft. Sheet metal and aircraft were his passions. Jack was a highly skilled artisan in his profession and devoted his career to perfection. He was highly respected by his peers. Jack was a hard working man with a very strong work ethic and values which he instilled in his children. Providing for his family was a priority. He was most comfortable in his home with his family and pets. Fishing was always a favourite pastime, as well as woodworking and planting trees. In his younger days, Jack loved to dance and really knew how to have a good time. Jack will always be remembered for his infectious sense of humour, his wisdom, his generosity, his kindness and compassion for others and especially his love for his family. Our family would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital, Misericordia Centre (Cornish 2) and Deer Lodge Centre (Tower 6) for their compassionate care. A private family service was held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens on July 28, 2011. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tower 6, Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 0L3. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca
