JUANITA ANNE SMITH Juanita went peacefully, in comfort, and surrounded by family on July 29, 2011. Juanita recently suffered from kidney failure caused by Wegener's Granulomatosis, but refused to let that dictate the terms of her life. Born on October 22, 1938, to Margaret and Harry Pollock of Shoal Lake Manitoba, Juanita studied as a teacher and taught in Melita, Brochet, Nelson House, and Thompson. In 1964 she married Cecil, welcoming into their Thompson home his daughters and sons Darlene, Bobby, Lorn and Loretta. Juanita eagerly volunteered for many community projects and causes. A lifelong learner, she was keen to study and travel. Since retiring, mom had divided her time between Winnipeg and the cottage at Setting Lake, playing Bridge, gardening, going to the theatre and volunteering with the University Women's Club. Juanita is survived by her sister Mardene (Evans) Premachuk, daughter Dawna and son Harold (Pauline), nieces Lynn, Carol, Lisa and Marla, and many grandchildren, including Abbey, with whom she spent a great deal of time in recent summers. She will be missed by a large extended family and many friends. Juanita's family thanks the staff in the Medicine 5E ward of St. Boniface Hospital for the tremendous comfort and care that they provided her. A celebration of Juanita's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 4 in the La Verendrye room of the Fort Garry Hotel, 222 Broadway Ave. Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the Thompson Community Foundation (P.O. Box 1074 Thompson MB R8N 1N9) and the Saint Boniface Hospital Foundation (D1003 - 409 Tache Ave Winnipeg MB R2H 2A6 or www.saintboniface.ca)

Juanita - what a turbocharged lady! Along with Cec, Juanita made Grif and I so welcome to Thompson. PC campaigns, many wonderful meals, even better stories and spending camp time at Setting Lake. Juanita played a key role in establishing Thompson Playhouse. She gave tremendous support in developing the central professional library as well as the local school libraries. Our hearts go out to the family, especially Dawna, Harold and Pauline and Abby. - Posted by: Marion Hodge (Family) on: Aug 03, 2011
