Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMILY ELIZABETH BERGMANN It is with the deepest of sadness we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother, Emily Elizabeth Bergmann (nee Winter) on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the age of 88. Emily was predeceased by the love of her life, Harold Arthur Bergmann in 1967. Harold and Emily were married in 1942. Emily was the last surviving member of the Cornelius Winter family. Born April 6, 1923 in Winkler, MB to Katrina and Cornelius Winter. She was predeceased by all her brothers and sisters. Emily is survived by her four children, James (and Barb) of Cochrane, AB, Charles of Calgary, AB, Reginald (and Joan) of Winnipeg, MB and Bonnie (and George) of Winnipeg, MB, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild, plus three sisters-in-law, Chris Winter of Winnipeg, MB and Jessie Winter of Linlithgow Bridge, Scotland and Esther Unrau of Abbotsford, BC, plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and of course, many, many friends. Emily was the light that shone for our whole family, the glue that held us all together. She had a love for life that she gladly passed on to all the members of the family. If Emily had any fault at all, it was that she cared too much for her family, and we, all in turn, returned that love and care. Her eyes would light up every time she saw one of the family. Emily was quick to laugh, loved a good joke, and always had a twinkle in her eye. She could be quite mischievous and loved playing with all her grandchildren. She was always one of the first to offer help at any time and in the last few years regretted not being able to give that help as her health had deteriorated. She served with honour during the Second World War in the munitions plant in Hamilton, ON. Emily was very proud of the time she was employed by the Unemployment Commission as a secretary and translator. For the last 20 years before her retirement in 1987, Emily worked for the T. Eaton Company in the China Department. Emily and Harold were founding and active members of the Windsor Park United Church and both sang in the choir there for years. A memorial service is being held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg, MB. As per Emily's wishes, cremation has already taken place. Following Emily's wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
