Nettie was born on March 17, 1926 in Ozerna, Manitoba. In 1936, the family moved to Winnipeg where Nettie attended David Livingston and William Whyte Schools. On September 2, 1944, Nettie married Andrew and together they raised their four beautiful daughters. Nettie stayed home to raise their family. She later worked at the Canadiana Motor Hotel and then the Winnipeg Convention Centre until her retirement in 1997. Nettie led a very active life in the church. She was a member of the UCWLC (Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada) at the Regional and Archeparchial levels and was president of the St. Andrew's Branch for many years. She was also a member of OYK (Ukrainian Women's Organization of Canada), Winnipeg Branch. Nettie volunteered her time with these and many other organizations. Nettie had a love of and a real talent for writing Ukrainian pysanky. You could always find her sitting at the dining room table working on her next masterpiece. Over the years, Baba made hundreds in all sizes, from turtle to ostrich eggs. We all have many of these masterpieces, and we cherish every one. Family meant the world to Nettie. Many family dinners were held at the house over the years, and she cherished every moment that she spent with us. Gatherings which included her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews also meant everything to her. Nettie is survived by her beloved husband Andrew of 66 years; daughters Jane (Raymond) Honeybun, Lillian (Raymond) Remillard, Judy (Allan) Mryglod, Marian (Peter) Roth; grandchildren Christine (Garry), Paul, Jeremy (Alyson), Patricia (Rene), Kristopher (Christine), Garrett (Stephanie), Erika and Kaitlyn and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Nadia and Matilda; brothers Peter (Jan) and Alfie (Shirley); sisters-in-law Mary and Ann, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and family in Ukraine. She is predeceased by her parents Samuel and Anne Kowalyk, in-laws Nicholas and Anna Barabash; brothers John, Harry, Walter, and Michael; sisters Helen and Sophie. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at the Poseidon Care Centre who took care of Mom. Your caring and compassion over the years are greatly appreciated. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Father Walter Klymchuk for ministering her last rites and spiritual guidance. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 6 at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. with Fr. L. Ratushniak, C.Ss.R. officiating.
