JOHAN (HANS) BOSKAMP Hans peacefully passed away on August 3, 2011, at Riverview Health Centre. Hans was born August 12, 1946, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in his late teens. He was predeceased by his parents, his eldest sister Marguerite (Diederik) and his youngest brother Ton (Magdalena). He is survived by his brothers Joost (Karen) and Maarten (Liesbeth), as well as many other relatives. He was married to Karen Drysdale for 25 years and remains a dearly loved member of their family not just an in-law but as a son and brother. Hans was employed as an A/V Technician by the University of Manitoba for more than 30 years and was loved and respected by his co-workers. Hans loved travelling and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered as the Chef Extraordinaire at many turkey fries and gatherings. Hans savoured life and revelled in his many hobbies: fishing, skiing, kiting, playing bridge and his most loved hobby sailing. He was dedicated to his family and friends and loved by all his many nieces and nephews. His friends' children and grandchildren also lovingly called him Uncle Hans. Hans' life was enriched by a circle of dear friends in Winnipeg and Holland, and thanks everyone: I have lived a wonderful life. The family wishes to thank the Victoria Hospital CancerCare Centre for their compassion in his chemo treatment, the palliative care unit from The Riverview Health Centre and his special friends, Tim and Carol Cowan and Don and Bonnie Gregoire. In lieu of flowers, Hans would encourage you to share a smile and an extra hug for your loved ones. While his death is sad, we are comforted to know he is free and at peace. Sail on Hans! Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on August 13, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550

  • Hans. You stay in my memories, so many years after your passing. I still try to do things the way you taught me. You were one of a few people who truly cared. You are missed and remembered and I'm glad to have known you. - Posted by: William Reagan (Friend) on: Sep 05, 2025

  • We were so saddened to hear. We will miss seeing him when we travel from London, Ontario to visit Tim and Carol. We always looked forward to his famout turkey frys. He would always take the time to host one as he knew we enjoyed them so much. Playing cards just won't be the same without him. What a kind, thoughtful and supportive circle of friends he has. It shows what a wonderful person Hans was. - Posted by: Curt and Candi Osborne (Friend) on: Aug 07, 2011
